Company & Senior’s Fridays

We are always looking for extra help on our Friday sessions, could you spare some time to help?, it would be greatly appreciated. We are particularly looking for someone to operate The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme activities, as we have a mum who has to do the admin work.

Return to Canoeing now a reality

Three adult staff in BB - Tracey, Matt and Keith have undertaken canoe instructor training with Bradwell Outdoors Centre and The BB Canoe Club over the last few months, and we have returned to canoeing on the river at Ulting, and hope to do so and at Bradwell using Blue Whisper powerboat as a safety boat.

If you would like to come out canoeing over the summer months, especially as we will have three new canoes and an indian open canoe - please leave a message at the BB office in the new year. There will also be sign up sheets. John Boon December 2009

New Industrial workshop and storage facility in Witham

We started to rent a unit/ workshop on Eastways Industrial Estate from July 2007, to house our workshop facility of canoeing, woodturning and powerboat and undertake “dirty” tasks of maintenance.

We would like to thank John May, Graham Dawson, Matthew Summers and Chatsworth Electrical for setting up the power and water supplies, and for the costings for a first floor storage area. Warrick Chipperfield has replaced the windows.
This is bold move forward for us so if you can help in any way, please let John know.
Thanks too to Witham Town Council and others for sponsoring this project financially.

GOOD NEWS - in early December 2009 we heard our bid to gain funding for the purchase of the unit has been agreed at £36,300 from Essex CC Youth Capital Fund. We now need another £25000 to finish the job including the first floor ! Thanks to everyone who helped to achieve this end ! John Boon Dec 09

Parents’ Fund Raising Group - needs more parents please

The Group of parents who arrange fund raising for us, need more members please - due to the retirement of one person after 15 years, and one other no longer able to come along. We meet twice a year for planning and refreshments ! Followed by some involvement, in fund raising, as and when time permits. If you are interested , please call the office or e mail John. Woodturning opportunity

Would you like to learn how to wood - turn - make bowls, goblets, jewellry and presents from wood ? If so we may be able to help, through a Woodturning shop now based at our workshop.
This will be available on a Friday night badgework in September 2009 for up to six or seven weeks, here in Witham !! Also wood burning as a craft too !

Work Experience opportunity

Calling all Company Section and Seniors - if you are looking for a work experience opportunity through the year, associated with Trident or other organisation, then why apply to us and come work at the BB office ? We know that Maltings Academy is during May / June time and Rickstones Academy September - but we can accomodate any BB member whatever time of year. Talk to John please for 2010.

Help us raise some funds with your unwanted gifts / items for an auction !

If you have unwanted Christmas gifts, items, toys etc., that can be sent to an auction or table top sale, please let John know so this can be arranged.
We are short of funds at the moment, so this is an easy way to raise money.
If you would like to help with this, please also, let John know.
